Micro-sclerotherapy

As summer approaches, we get ready for more outdoor activities and the long-waited holidays.  However, if you have thread veins, spider veins or small varicose veins on your legs, this can make you feel self-conscious or even embarrassed about getting your legs out on the beach!

But no more hiding or covering your legs…
At Rejené Clinic, we offer Micro-sclerotherapy which is a well-established and highly effective treatment for spider/thread veins; a problem that affects up to 50% of all adults. Although it is a cosmetic issue, it may lead to irritation, swelling and leg pain.

Micro-Sclerotherapy is a safe and well-established treatment for thread/spider veins on the legs. There is a number of alternative treatments but micro-sclerotherapy remains the most reliably successful of them all and considered as the gold standard treatment for such a cosmetic issue. Though appropriate for red, purple and blue veins up to 4mm in diameter, it is not suitable for patients who have varicose veins (lumpy, wriggly veins) or for facial veins.

Micro-sclerotherapy uses tiny needles to specifically inject the problematic veins with a sclerosing material that eventually lead to disappearance of the spider veins. The use of graduated compression hosiery speeds up the healing process and can minimise the unwanted side effects.

Dr M Hani will perform a thorough clinical assessment on you to make sure that Micro-sclerotherapy suits you so that you are assured you will get a highly effective and well tolerated Micro-sclerotherapy treatment.

+ How Does it Work?

  • A solution (sclerosing material), is injected with a very tiny needle, into the problematic veins, causing the lining of the veins to swell and become sticky. Compression is then applied to help close the veins. Over a period of time the vein will heal closed and fade away.
  • The results achieved after one treatment vary considerably from one client to another. You should initially plan for 4 treatments, 4 - 16 weeks apart, and you can expect an improvement in their appearance of 60 - 80%. Further treatments will be decided upon according to your response.

+ Is it Safe?

Though safe, it is not entirely without risk. Dr M Hani will discuss all the risks and side effects with you at the pre-treatment consultation.

+ How long will it last?

The veins that are successfully treated are gone for good, but there is no cure for the underlying vein condition and treatment cannot prevent new veins appearing or reappearing in the future.

+ Am I suitable for Treatment?

This treatment is not suitable for pregnant or nursing women, or patients with varicose veins. Dr M Hani will take a thorough medical history to ensure you are suitable for treatment.

+ Before Treatment

You will need to purchase compression hosiery and bring it with you to the appointment each time. You may choose any brand or style but it must be; Graduated Medical Compression, medium class.

We recommend either knee high or thigh high, do not purchase tights as these will be difficult to put on. No matter where your veins are, knee high hosiery will be suitable, cheaper and easier to wear.
