Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP is an innovative, all-natural and a highly sought-after nonsurgical procedure for facial and skin rejuvenation. It is widely used to enhance skin texture and hydration. It can be also useful for improving the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Plasma is straw-coloured liquid rich in platelets, nutrients and growth factors among others; all are important for tissue healing and repair. In order to separate and concentrate the plasma components, a blood sample is taken and ‘spun’ in a machine called the centrifuge, the red blood cells sink to the bottom; the plasma rises to the top which then can be collected and injected into the skin using tiny needles. A numbing cream maybe used to reduce the discomfort during the treatment as needed.
Dr M Hani will be more than happy to answer your questions and invite you for a face to face consultation to construct a PRP treatment plan that is suitable for your condition.
+ How does it work?
When injected into the skin, PRP stimulates the formation of new collagen and elastin. The results develop over a period of months, improving your skin tone, hydration and elasticity. Optimum results may be achieved after a course of injection sessions. In our experience, PRP works better when it is supported or complemented by other forms of treatment like micro-needling, skin resurfacing (chemical peeling) and mesotherapy.
+ What are the uses of PRP?
- Improving fine lines, smokers’ lines and wrinkles.
- Suitable for halos and fine lines around the eyes.
- Revitalising dull tired skin.
- Hair strengthening.
- Improving the appearance of scars & stretch marks.
- Vaginal rejuvenation and treatment of vaginal irritation and dryness.
It is important to know that PRP is not a quick fix, the treatment usually comes in the form sessions depending on your skin condition, age and the end-result you are expecting.
+ What are the potential risks?
Since the PRP used is the patient’s own blood, the risk of disease transmission, allergic reaction or toxicity are avoided. There may be tenderness, redness, , swelling and possibly bruising. You have to follow the aftercare advice that is designed to minimise risk and promote speedy recovery. All potential risks and complications will be discussed with you at the pre-treatment consultation and prior to any treatment being agreed.
+ How long does it take to see results?
Results may vary depending on the course of treatment used and your skin condition and its response to PRP injections.
+ Any reasons why I should not receive PRP treatment?
Ladies who are pregnant/trying to get pregnant or breast-feeding are not suitable candidates. PRP treatment is not recommended for people on anti-coagulant (blood thinning) treatment, have autoimmune diseases, have suffered any type of cancer or who have certain implants in their bodies.
